Being a board member provides a unique opportunity to contribute to IISE's fabulous programs. Depending on your committee, your tasks may involve running, organizing, or promoting specific IISE events. Regardless of your position on the board, you will gain valuable leadership skills during your time as a board member.

In addition to looking good on a resume, being a board member is a lot of fun! From board retreats to weekly meetings, there are plenty of occasions to get to know your fellow industrial engineers.

Although the commitments required of a board member are considerably more than that of a general member, the combination of professional development and social opportunities make it worthwhile.
In order to be considered for an IISE board position, you must fill out the application form by the appropriate due date. The application consists of several questions and an essay. Spending time on a high quality, honest response is important if you are serious about board membership. You will also need to submit your resume, so be sure it is fully updated. The final part of the application asks for you to rank your committee preference - please spend some time learning about the IISE's various committees before starting your application.

If your application is selected, you will be given an interview timeslot. The purpose of the interview is not to grill you on resume bullet points, but rather to learn more about you and your ideas to improve the organization.

IISE applications are quite competitive - your rejection at any point during the process does not mean you cannot be a successful industrial engineer. IISE accepts new board members every semester, so if you were not accepted when you first applied, you will be able to apply in future semesters.

Applications for the Spring 2025 semester are now closed.
Please stay tuned for the opening of Fall 2025 applications, anticipated in late August.
